Lawnbright Seeding Pack Application Guide

Lawnbright’s Seeding Pack helps jump start lawn growth with a combination of premium seed and a natural starter fertilizer. It is a two-part solution designed to help fill in bare spots, boost density, and build a greener, healthier lawn.

The Seeding Pack contains North Star Grass Seed, a premium seed blend with lateral spread technology, and Total Lawn, a high-performing liquid fertilizer formulated to support seedling root and growth development.

When to Apply Lawnbright Seed Pack:

Use the Seeding Pack when overseeding in early fall or spring, depending on your weather and climate. Soil temperatures should be ideal for seed germination (typically 55 to 70°F).

For warm season grasses, overseeding is best done in the spring. For cool season grasses, overseeding is best done in the early fall. You can determine your grass type here

How to Apply Lawnbright Seeding Pack:

  1. First, fertilize with Total Lawn. Open the cap and insert the included hose-end sprayer into the bottle, straw side down. Connect the other end to your hose.

  2. Turn the hose on and the plastic dial to “On.”

  3. Spray the area you are overseeding evenly with Total Lawn.

  4. Next, overseed by spreading North Star Grass Seed evenly over bare or thin areas.

  5. Water thoroughly and keep the soil moist for the first 2-3 weeks.

Tips for applying Lawnbright Seeding Pack:

  • Prepare your lawn by mowing low and raking away debris before applying the Seeding Pack.

  • Avoid heavy foot traffic while seed is germinating.

  • For best results, overseed just before a stretch of mild weather in the forecast.

Lawnbright Seeding Pack FAQs:

What is the Seeding Pack? How does it work?

Lawnbright’s Seeding Pack provides you with two products necessary for healthy overseeding: our premium North Star Seed and Total Lawn liquid starter fertilizer.

This allows you to overseed bare or thin patches on your lawn and provide your new seedlings with the nutrients they need to grow healthy and thick. The Seeding Pack is used together, starting with seed and ending with Total Lawn liquid fertilizer.

Does my seed brand matter?

Seed quality does matter. Many bargain or contractor bags of seed contain filler or weed seed. Learning to read your bag of seed is important. Here are some things to look out for:

  • Germination rate should be over 85% to ensure strong, even growth.

  • 0% weed seeds. Even a small percentage can mean hundreds of weeds on your lawn.

  • Low inert matter. Less filler means more viable seed.

  • Certified blend for your grass type. This helps ensure the grass’ long-term health. Not sure which grass type you have? Check out our guide here.

You can learn more about grass seed quality here.

What grass type does North Star Seed work for?

North Star is a Rhizomotous Turf Type Tall Fescue. It will work well mixing into any cool season grass type, such as Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, and Turf Type Tall Fescue. All of these grasses blend well together.

What size lawn does the Seeding Pack cover?

This is largely dependent on how large the bare spots are on your lawn and whether you are seeding or overseeding. As a rule of thumb, the Seeding Pack will cover around 4000 sq ft. for overseeding and around  2,000 sq ft. seeding on bare ground. That said, results may vary depending on how heavily you seed.

Is the Seeding Pack safe for my kids and pets?

Yes. All of our products, including our Seeding Pack, are made from natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals. This means that they are safe for your kids and pets, as well as better for the earth and your grass.

Which plan comes with grass seed?

Cool season and transition zone customers with a Prevent & Repair plan will receive North Star seed as part of their lawn plan. Please check your shipments in your account to see what is in your upcoming shipments, as they are customized based on your needs. That said, you can always purchase the Seeding Pack as an extra add-on if it is not included in your plan or if you need additional seed.

Will I see improvement in my lawn right away?

You should see seedlings begin to sprout within 2-3 weeks of seeding. Our premium grass seed includes 0% weed seed and has lateral spread technology, meaning it will continue to thicken up. It is also drought resistant.

I have too much product. Can I save it for later?

Yes. Lawnbright products have a shelf life of a year so you can close them tightly and store them in a cool, dry place for next season. Store grass seed in an airtight container away from moisture and excessive heat.

What are some tips for overseeding?

You can get detailed tips in our cool season fall overseeding guide. Here are some top tips:

  • Sharpen your lower blade for a clean cut before mowing. This helps reduce jagged edges and reduces the chance of disease.

  • Lower your mowing height to 2-2.5 inches right before seeding.

  • Dethatch if you have more than ½ inch of thatch.

  • Aerate compacted soil, either with a hand aerator, machine aerator, or liquid aerator such as Lawnbright Aeroflow.

  • Use a broadcast spreader for your seed to help ensure even coverage.

  • Keep soil consistently moist until germination (1-2 weeks). Light, frequent watering works better than a heavy soaking at this stage.

I’m a beginner. Are the products hard to apply?

Not at all! Lawnbright is designed to be beginner friendly, with no special equipment needed. Simply hook your Lawnbright products up to your hose and spray them on your lawn - that’s it!

How to Store Seeds and Fertilizer After Use:
